Estate and Vineyards
Estate
Our land
The state is located in the Sierra de la Moneda, in Mérida and has 36 hectares of vineyards, with small plots of different soils and altitudes. It also has 80 hectares of forest and Mediterranean scrub, which is home to a great diversity of native plants and trees.
The climate is continental with a slight Atlantic influence, cold temperatures in winter and long, warm summers, with great contrasts in temperatures between day and night. As for rain, it is most abundant in spring and autumn, with an average annual rainfall of 450 mm per year.
Vineyards
Our fruits
The vineyard is divided into small plots, depending on the type of soil, the variety and its location within the state.
We have a selection of different varieties: Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Tempranillo, Petit Verdot and Viognier. With them we make both single varietals and blends, which add complexity to our wines.
Yields are between 3,000 and 5,000 kilos of grapes per hectare.
The soils have a sandy and sandy-clay structure, poor in organic material and of moderate depth, with stony areas, composed mainly of quartzite.
We work with maximum respect for our terroir, as a guarantee of preventive and sustainable viticulture, thus promoting biodiversity in our environment.
Heritage
OUR FOUNDATIONS
Our founder Álvaro de Alvear bought the property on which the winery is located; a farm with a long viticultural history that has its origins in Roman times.
Remains of a Roman villa coexist with our vines just 12 km from Mérida, the Iberian epicenter of the Roman heritage legacy. Valdealto breathes culture.
